Opinions? With the economy and where you think it will be going; what do you think the best type of law to specialize in would be?

bankruptcy lawyers always have business

securities litigation is also flourishing i hear. Any field that litigates against government regulatory agencies should remain prosperous. I don't see the government getting any smaller anytime soon.

IP in general, particularly if it deals with the intersection of the internet and copyright. Also, music copyright in particular. I imagine there will be loads of work going on in this area as artists start realizing they don't need record labels anymore, but still need copyright protection due to dissemination of art via the internet.

Wills, trusts, and estates, for sure. Dying isn't going to go out of fashion anytime soon, although ITE, you never know what can happen.

So many different types have been mentioned: Immigration, Bankruptcy, Family, Trusts and Estates, Criminal Defense, IP, Administrative, Securities Litigation. With new concerns for nature, Id add environmental. Why is it then, that the attitude towards law is so doom and gloom? I see some positivity here...

+1. I work in securities litigation and was at work until 2:30 am last night. It's bumpin'.

law as a whole is growing but so are the number of law schools and law students. And hiring temporarily has constricted as compared to the prior 2 years, though it's still larger than it was a decade ago.

the doom and gloom is the immediate reaction to the change in status quo. Lots of people got laid off. Lots of people didn't get jobs out of OCI. At this particular moment it's still a scary time to go into the law profession.

International law. There are always going to be countries, and somebody has to jetset around the world doing law in those countries.

When that actually becomes a real field, that'd be pretty sweet, though.

It actually is. Someone needs to do the legal work for launching satellites, etc. Fun to joke about though.
