Come on...there has to be somebody else going to Capital!!

I got int there but I am not sure where I want to go yet. Anything you can tell me to convince me its a great school?

Ohio already has 4 schools in the top 100 (OSU, Case, Cinn., Toledo) plus two T3's, so a JD from Capital is not very competitive in OH.

If you plan on living and practicing in Ohio (and even nearby areas of West Virginia), Capital has a very strong regional reputation. They have a slightly bigger class than OSU (with their PT day & evening programs) with more diversity (i.e., more older/non-trads). A great many attorneys and judges practicing in the area are Capital grads.

I have applied to Capital and I'm definitely considering it, as my wife and I are about 30, own a house in CBus, she has a job she likes... I got a decent scholarship to Illinois (10k/yr) but will have to seriously consider CULS if a good ride is possible.

From what I hear from attorneys I've spoken to between here and Cleveland, CULS grads place well in Columbus but not great outside, and it's hopeless out of state. Just what I've heard anyhow.

Besides that, I've been complete since 12/11 and they told me I would have a decision within 3-4 weeks but still haven't heard anything. Called last week and was told it hadn't been reviewed yet... Two emails to the admssions office have gone unanswered in the past month. Just saying.

Booboo...any word yet?

I went complete a month after you...so I'm wondering how long their review cycle really is. The May 1st deadline makes me nervous that they sit on apps for a long time.

I got the package in the mail Saturday and they gave me... the exact same scholarship that Illinois did. Though it did have a neato computer printed certificate b/c I got a "Presidential Merit Scholarship." This would actually mean that, after the first year when I would become a resident of IL (b/c my wife would be working there and making more than 1/2 the income, other factors), Capital would actually cost me more than a top 25 school. Also, I need to keep a 2.0 at IL to keep the scholly, but a 3.0 at Capital. Interesting, huh?

I am attending Capital this coming Fall. I am very excited to start. I traveled 5 hours on plane just to visit the school and completely fell in love with it. They have a government affairs program and joint degree programs that many other schools do not offer.The school is located in the middle of downtown Columbus where everything is, including the Ohio court house, the biggest library in the country, and many other government agencies. If you can't get into a 3tier school i highly recommend this school.

I'm thinking of applying to Capital but wonder if my stats are good enough. I have a really bad GPA but a decent LSAT score...what were everyones stats for getting in?

i can't stand that website, it's super biased and gives super unrealistic reviews. the fact is that the location seems to make this school have soo many perks. the easy for having a job or internship and networking in the state capitol is bound to help with career prospects. a lot of notable people have come from here. and honestly, columbus is just a great, and extremely cheap place to live. that website totally skewed the numbers. Let's not forget that most applicants get some money, so the tuition tag isn't actually as posted.

i visited and wasn't super impressed with the building, but I didn't take a tour and see food/lounge/library. my biggest turn off was the number of older people in my tour group. i want to have some sort of fun in my freetime and I was hoping to make friends in law school and i'm not sure about that here. i'm starting to see capital as just a go-to for local, older professionals. bleh.

Ahh, the Capital thread continues to live. As I mentioned previously, Ohio already has too many law schools. Each major metropolitan region already has law schools in the Top 100, and those student are fighting for jobs, so you can imagine how the bottom-feeding 4th tiers are doing. If Capital is your only option and you really want to be an attorney in Columbus, then godspeed and good luck; but otherwise I would avoid Capital in favor of it's more highly regarded neighbor.

Sooo so true. I have no idea why Ohio has so many schools! Honestly, it's just weird.

Also, I think it's safe to assume that this thread is for people who wouldn't stand a chance at OSU but want to reap the benefits of studying law the capitol city.

The most financially successful attorney I know is a Capital grad.

It's certainly true that Ohio has too many law schools, and ite there aren't enough jobs in Cbus for two schools, but I'd shut down some others before I shut Capital. That being said, I talked to a Capital LS grad recently who works for the Ohio AG and had recently attended on campus interviews at Capital. He said that the only employers there were the AG's office and Air Force JAG and it was bleak.

That's funny as about half the prosecutors/PDs in my county in ohio come from ONU. I think it's the small town law school in ohio. It's located in a small town and that's where its grads go. I'd shut down Dayton and cleveland state first, but I think you're right tOSU, Case and Cincy are about all this state really needs.

the only thing I can say about Daytons law school is out of the law school buildings ive visited cincy case osu cm cap, daytons was by far the nicest building if that counts for anything (prolly not though)
