What are these boat cruises you speak of?

OH BOY. There is a large firm that gives the school an obnoxious grant to do social shit, and that means that each Society Coordinator hosts a boat cruise on Town Lake. You get hammered before and during the boat trip. That's basically it. The goal is to go on as many as possible, but the trick is that each person can theoretically only bring one guest.

I honestly don't remember when they happen lol. I'm so brain-drained from OCI stuff. Maybe like October? Not too late that you feel like it's a waste of time.

There are multiple law school functions where a flask is a good idea. Casino night, ex-parte, etc.

Additional pro tip: when you are out at a bar afterwards that night, do not drunkenly take the flask out of your pocket and leave it on top of the table for no reason. You may be forcibly removed from the bar.

It turned into an open bar for everyone at the end. I think wokeup was blackout by that point though.

Had both, thought they were rad as hell and did well in both.

Linda is gonna seem really intimidating but she's not, she just takes joy in putting students in awkward spots. You'll be on call for one day an you're free otherwise. Just remember: there's no participation grade in law school, but don't fuck up. I thought she made the class interesting. USE ANY AND ALL OF HER PREP MATERIALS EXTENSIVELY. If you gun this class you'll succeed. Multiple choice exam feels impossible and the best grade in any given class may only reach as high as 30/40.

Cheney is a cool dude, all the women will swoon over him, and I thought his class was good overall. Do take the in-class pop quiz style questions seriously and keep track of what they were and the answers--it makes good study prep. Also, put together mock essay answer outlines for each main topic. Test is predictable and not too bad. Class feels more like a history class so if that's your thing you're in luck.

Well sometimes it's not true...there's real diminishing returns at work with some 1L classes

Thank you for this egoist. Why would anybody administer a mc test, as if dealing with learning one exam format wasn't enough.

Profs are lazy when it comes to grading exams. But civ pro actually does lend itself to MC format for exams.

Yeah looking back I initially resented the MC tests, but writing 6500 words in 3 hours is also my version of hell, so you really can't win

Funny, my Civ Pro is one of only two classes where my exams were 100% long essay (no MC or even short answer).

Also is there any reason to actually buy the legal writing books? (Other than style guides). I.e. will they ever be referenced/needed in class, or can we just read the library copies?
