I just made the wait-list after I applied ED late in January, and I feel like I'm in uncharted waters: White M, Undergrad, No Super Soft ECs/WE, No non-trad (ie not ex military), with a 155/163/158 LSATs (practiced 165-172, did not perform so on test days), LSAC 3.24/UGPA 3.47.

I've checked LSN, and there's only (1) person I noticed who fit something similar and they applied in like 2003. Given that LSN is a relatively small sample often geared towards higher achieving applicants, would any of you all know if the school takes a couple dark horse student(s) each year based more on personal statements (*the only possible reason I can see there being for them to WL me; it's hard to objectively say one's story is compelling, but that's the inference I draw).

Appreciate any info, thoughts, opinions
UVA has a strange habit of placing basically everyone on the wait list, we call it a "soft reject." I wouldn't expect to be hearing good news from UVA given those numbers. The brutal truth is it's very surprising they didn't reject you straight out.

haha, I don't think you need to qualify truth with "brutal"--there's no doubt my numbers just don't match with UVA's typical student profile. So I, too, was (very) surprised, though certainly happy, that they WL'ed me. That said I know that a "soft reject" is the most likely possibility, and I don't expect any news better than what I already received. However, as someone who could probably attest to how great UVA is as a school, experience, I assume that you'd likely agree it'd be foolish not to give things a shot, right? I understand if there are some people who didn't get in, or even those who did, who may resent the fact I even got WL'ed; nonetheless, I would appreciate any constructive input.
I'm not really sure what input you're looking for here. Remaining on the wait list is costless, so there's no reason for you to ask to be removed from it. Sure, send in a letter re-affirming your interest, visit if you want, but that's about it. There's no more "input" to give, really.

Stay on the wait list, but recognize the fact that admission from the wait list is very unlikely, in light of a) how many people are on the wait list (a lot), b) how many people get off the wait list (not many), and c) your admissions profile (very weak relative to UVA)

Yeah, I suppose you're right regarding any input. I'm just probing to see if anyone found themselves, or heard of someone else, in an even slightly similar situation. I do recognize the chances are very unlikely and that a "soft reject" is the most probable explanation for the WL. That said I applied pretty late in the cycle (late Jan), so who knows (besides TLS, ha). Thanks anyways

A few things....

1 - if you are coming to UVa as a 1L in the fall, you will probably be moving from 1 city to Cville. At that point, you will probably have lots of clothes you want to throw out. Don't throw those old clothes out. Keep them and turn them into Feb Club outfits.

2 - During tonight's Jorts party, when I saw a nice pair of legs walking down the stairs, I felt confused because i wasn't sure if I was checking out men or women's legs. Turned out to be TheSealocust once.

3 - Cville is great. 65 and sunny on Saturday and forecast of 5 inches of snow on Sunday.

My roommate's getting married in May and is moving out of our 2 bedroom at the Jeffersonian and I'm looking for someone to take his place. I'd prefer someone who's also going to be a 2L next year (but will still consider other years), and someone who's a good, easy-to-get-along-with roommate and not a fucking weirdo. Rent's 400/month before cable, internet, and utilities which is like another 50 bucks or so. PM me for additional details. This is a good opportunity for some of you with higher numbers on the waitlist.

Question. Are you okay with large families? And babysitting services, included or extra?

This isn't even close to the creepiest thing that's happened to me relating to the salute your jorts party.

It snowed a few inches Sunday afternoon/overnight. First "real snow" of the year. (We got an inch or so back in Novemberish, but that was gone in hours.) Good for play for a day or so. Most of it melted off yesterday. All is back to normal, and it's supposed to be 73 by Thursday. End scene.

You are looking at this the wrong way. We made it! December 21st was the last day of finals and today is February 21st. If we got it at any point before today we would be telling people it took "almost" 2 months to get our grades back, but now it took 2 months. 2 ENTIRE months to get our grade back. It's obscene. An awful, miserable, ridiculous, obscenely long amount of time. And a great story.

This reminds me of how ticked people in Dallas were about falling two days short of the record for consecutive 100+ degree days last summer. (Nearly) all the suffering, none of the glory.

I imagine that PR test had a lot of cases and a lot of policy issues that needed to be graded.

Right now, I'm selecting between UVA and Cornell. Would appreciate input/feedback. Thanks! Background: Born and raised in SoCal, went to USC for undergrad, majored in PoliSci (really limits it down, eh)

1) What are the pros and cons of having one of the largest class sizes amongst top law schools (350+ students, 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio)?
2) Could you speak to the level of UVA’s “renown” in CA and NY?
3) I was wondering if you could speak to the overall diversity of UVA’s student body. For example, ~25% of the current 1L class at UVA reported themselves as being minorities while that number for Cornell is 40%+. Or is the % irrelevant since UVA has such a big student body that quantity wise, there will be plenty of people of different backgrounds?
4) In terms of proximity to the school and pricing (I’m hoping to find a roommate or three haha), which place is the best to live? From my discussions with a current UVA 2L, he mentioned Graduate Center (Woodard?) and the Jeffersonian were great deals.
5) I’ve read that Charlottesville, or at least the immediate area around the school, is not really pedestrian friendly and the public transit system is not that great. I guess if I live within walking distance of the school and surrounding stores/shops, it doesn't really matter, but still, I am curious about this.

Thanks!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
