TITCR. If you want a reason to come to UVA, do it for the P/F LRW. Just go look at any of dozens of other threads from other schools where folks are tearing their hair out over their LRW grades, and you'll understand why.thesealocust wrote:Oh yes, it so gloriously is. p/f LRW is a major, major plus for UVA.

Is it true that trying to do good work in LRW will help you in your other classes? Or is it just there to crush your soul?

Re: UVA 1L taking questions
This is probably true to some extent, my Dillard fellow (basically a teaching assistant) told me that you're doing the same kind of legal writing and analysis on your exams, just much faster... and that was something I drew from while I was trying to figure out how to take exams.jawsthegreat wrote:Is it true that trying to do good work in LRW will help you in your other classes? I suspect I have the slowest prof for each section. I think I did mess up on torts though so I'm really hoping he uses the staircase grading approach.vanwinkle wrote:Me? For example, while waiting for grades that are crazy slow to come out, no. No I am not.
But the culture, people, classes, location, PRESTIGE, etc. are all pretty choice. All in all I am personally thrilled by my decision to go to UVA, and would do so again in a heart beat. Your mileage may vary.

Re: UVA 1L taking questions
All I know about LRW is that I'm actually using the skills from it in my winter pro bono project . . . wrote 2 memo's last week and working on 2 more . . . Unfortunately, I also discovered that our LRW major memo topic was actually on the easier side of things for conducting research onjawsthegreat wrote:Is it true that trying to do good work in LRW will help you in your other classes? Re: UVA 1L taking questions
I'm not sure how helpful it was for other classes- I think it helped in some ways, like I feel like it helped some with torts and with civil procedure, since I actually read all the cases I used for LRW- not necessarily the whole case or in detail, but it did expose me to more cases and I picked things up just from reading them.jawsthegreat wrote:Is it true that trying to do good work in LRW will help you in your other classes? Also, I found doing good work in LRW helpful in that I put the time in up front on my first draft of the memo, so that I had to make only minimal changes for the final version, which I think saved me time in the end.

Re: UVA 1L taking questions
It was indicated earlier on in this thread that typing speed could play an impact on your grade if for no other reason than that you can cover more material when writting. Would any of you then suggest taking "typing class" in order to speed up one's typing abilities?

Re: UVA 1L taking questions
Take a typing test online. If you can't hit 30 words per minute, you should probably try and improve. Otherwise, you will be fine.NosferatuDracon wrote:It was indicated earlier on in this thread that typing speed could play an impact on your grade if for no other reason than that you can cover more material when writting. Writing a lot on an exam is important, but your ability to write a lot will depend mostly on how well you know the material. If you have to constantly refer back to your notes for every issue that arises, you will not be able to type nearly as much as someone who knows the material well and can spend less time referring to notes and more time typing.
Also, since I only have one grade back, I am not in any position to say whether or not typing more on an exam actually helps. I have heard that it does from other people here, but in a month or so I'll have an idea of whether typing a lot helped me.

Re: UVA 1L taking questions
If I recall correctly, I had about 23 wpm for my exams (excluding the one that had a MC section). I don't think it held me back, but, again, we'll see when grades come out.NosferatuDracon wrote:It was indicated earlier on in this thread that typing speed could play an impact on your grade if for no other reason than that you can cover more material when writting. Heres a question for you guys. What extracurriculars did you guys participate in this past semester? If so, to what degree did it affect your studies?

UVA in Atlanta
In what percentage of the class would one have to be in to get a Big Law offer in Atlanta from UVA ITE and NTE(IBE)

Re: UVA in Atlanta
To be brutally honest with you, no one really knows.
Everything people will say is speculation (we're almost all law students/prelaw students - so we know little about these things).
If you have been accepted to UVA, check with their Career Services department about who received "Big Law" jobs in Atlanta and what their ranks were (and make sure you specify about students that aren't from GA that go to UVA - unless you're from GA).
They should have that information.
