Chairman v. Partner

This may be a dumb question but what's the difference between a Chairman at a big law firm versus a Partner at a big law firm? And if there is a difference, does one have more power per say....?

Obviously there are differences, otherwise there wouldn't be different titles. It'd be helpful to know the context of your question. If you are a first year associate and you screw up (for example, by not knowing how to spell "per se"), either one can get you fired.
