It’s probably the initials of the judge assigned to the case.

This. Docket numbers in NY district courts are [Year]-[CR/CV to indicate criminal or civil matter]-[Random number] ([Judge initials]). I think this pattern is consistent across most (if not all) federal district courts.nixy wrote:It’s probably the initials of the judge assigned to the case.
