Exam Sleeping Complications

Hey, everyone. I am a first semester 1L in the middle of Final Exams. I took my first exam this morning after tossing and turning all night last night. Saying I got 2 hours of sleep would be generous. I was a little tired before the exam, but once it started it was no longer and issue, and the exam went well. I came home and immediately crashed, but now I am faced with a weird sort of predicament with my sleep cycle being so fucked up before my second exam on Thursday. I have never done this before (except when I was actually sick), but I've heard of people taking Nyquil to get to sleep. Does anyone have any thoughts/anecdotes about that? I am not particularly worried about waking up for the exam because I plan on just riding out my sleep schedule at this point. I have no obligations other than the final on Thursday, and it might even be better to wake up fully rested several hours before the exam and have an opportunity for some final review/going over another practice exam.

I don't think experimenting with Nyquil for the first time the night before an exam is the best idea. You *could* have an adverse reaction to it and that could mess up your test taking experience. I know from experience that NyQuil can leave you groggy the morning after you take it. Everyone gets nervous before exams--Just try to relax, focus on your breaths, and ride it out.

Take melatonin, won't give you that semi-hung over groggy feeling NyQuil does.

Michigan offers a summer start for 1Ls. I'm guessing this is when they have their exams.

Ah, OK. Thanks. I was so confused.

I think a lot of schools do this. Could be a 2 year JD student too. They started in the summer at my school.

In the fall of my 2L year I slept maybe 3 hours before my evidence exam and 90 minutes before my jurisprudence exam. A in evidence, CALI/booked jurisprudence. I slept maybe 4 hours total between 2 nights on a 48 hour take home and got an A in a nightmarishly difficult curved class. Nothing you can really do about it, and the worst thing you could do is mess with your body's chemicals. Just let it ride, get the sleep you can, and it will work out.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out that my body finally gave into my sleep debt, and I got like 14 hours of sleep before my Torts exam this morning. What a nightmare. Glad it's over.
