Top Law Schools

I am entering a very low tiered law school next month in the NYC area. I plan to work hard and transfer to a higher tiered school like Cordozo. A friend said he heard a story about a 1L in a similar scenario, tried to transfer to a better school but professors intentionally gave him low grades to prevent him from doing so. He allegedly ended up transferring out to a better school but regardless, had a very tough time doing so. Is anyone familiar with this scenario? Also, please feel free to share if you have any other general/helpful tips re transferring schools in the NYC area. Thanks.

Don't go to a law school if you're intention is to transfer. Retake and reapply if it's a question of your LSAT score, but in any case only go to a law school you're happy graduating from.

Cordozo was quite the jurist.

But, I digress. It sounds like the person your friend heard about came up with some excuses for his poor performance. Unless you walk around telling anyone who will listen, including professors, that you're planning to transfer after 1L how would they know? And even if so, grading is blind. So, if that person/scenario really existed it was probably more that he was a miserable person making things up to make himself feel better in order to rationalize poor results relative to an unjustifiably inflated ego.

Yea, I've got a few tips as a former transfer student. First, let me say, entering the shit school intending to transfer displays confidence and is a good move. If you don't believe in yourself, who will? So, going with the expectation of top 10% is totally reasonable.
I would not begin to study until the two weeks before the exams. Then your goal is to cram. in the weeks leading up, just chill out and relax. in fact, I would say class is optional. These strategies should easily put you in the top quarter. From there, the key is stream of consciousness exam writing. Seriously, I would have no organization whatsoever. Get Creative. Good luck, its easy.

Also there is no law school known as Cordozo.

You're not allowed to post in the transfers forum until you have grades. Moved to the proper forum.

And what everyone else has said, especially that no one will know you intend to transfer until after you've gotten grades.

I will say that it is almost certain that the profs did not give him bad grades to hold him back, but a lot of low ranked schools use a very low curve that means almost no one has a facially good GPA despite maybe being at the top of the class. That's a more reasonable explanation for his story.

But yeah, don't go to law school with the intent to transfer--and in your post Cardozo at sticker after you transfer is your best scenario, and it's not a great scenario.
