Curious if anyone has had experience leaving a commitment early in order to attend law school for any reason, personal, financial, anything at all. Also curious what the consequences are / if you have any opinions about doing so.

Just give notice and quit, while not burning bridges. What's the issue?

If you are thinking about doing TFA and then only sticking it out for one year, that is a very poor idea. People know TFA is a two-year commitment and quitting will look very, very bad. (It's also a poor idea to go into TFA knowing you don't want to teach, but that's another discussion for another thread.)
If this is something else, carry on. Just give adequate notice and quit.
