1L here, sent an email/resume to a small firm expressing interest to work there over the summer, no response. Today they've advertised a summer internship position. Lol wtf? Should I even send in a resume?

Yes, and make sure to include "like wtf man" in your cover letter.

Business world is a disorganized place. They probably read it and figured they'd come back to it when they started to think about the summer. Resend your resume and don't mention you had reached out earlier.

Good advice. Also, get used to being rejected. Find your worth, stay confident, and take your rejections like a champ...if you get actual rejections. If you are not Top 10%, expect to work for the rest of your law school career at finding a job. The career office won't help, and you may or may not get interviews for OCI...unless of course you gain attractive experience and sell yourself well despite being median.

Establish relationships with your professors and network like hell. It's these personal relationships that will matter because when professors or others are talking to their friends (who happen to be hiring managers) the only name you want them to think about is yours, the tenacious 1L that is passionate about the law and eager to work hard and long. It gets the job done.

Welcome to the real world? Get use to it. You're a nobody until you're a somebody. Right now you're just a lowly 1L who really knows nothing about anything, who wants a job just like the thousands of 1Ls out there as well. You need them more than they need you. So as much as you think you're more special because you reached out, at the end of the day, that doesn't mean you'll get to be the first in line. They're going to go with the best candidates that fits their need.

Completely agree with DCfilterDC except for the general statement about the business world being a disorganized place. Every firm has a way of doing things. It's more likely that it's easier and more efficient to just compile all of the resumes and look through them at a specific period of time to compare the applicants.
