Is it considered unprofessional looking to get an ombre or balayage color before interviews? I'm a 1L so this would be for the summer unpaid internship between 1st and 2nd year.

In my dude opinion, do whatever you want with your hair color. If it's really unnatural — like, purple — you might not want to apply to, say, prosecutor jobs, but otherwise whatever. Ombre hair color is not going to be the reason that you don't get fancylaw.
But women with experience with this sort of thing might know more about this than I do.

Purple's not likely to fly for biglaw or judges, either. Most legal employers, really.
As long as whatever form of natural-type color is done well, it won't matter. Personally I'm not a fan of ombre, but if it's subtle and not drastic I'm sure it would be fine. (But I just think drastic ombre looks bad, I doubt it's going to affect your job options.) Balayage I think of as just another technique for highlights, so I can't see how it would present a problem.
