Did you change your cell number after you get your first legal job?

When you landed your first legal job, did you change your cell phone # to the city in which you were hired? For example, I can imagine fresh biglaw lawyers starting out in NYC, Chicago, or LA might want to get a local number for those cities? Or does it not matter anymore?

Why would this matter?

Not in big city law, but in smaller communities you may want to get a phone mumber that matches the general area codes surrounding so you don't seem like a foreigner

He said biglaw in a major metro area. Not family law in Minot, ND. You also have a work number you can give instead (not clear who you would be giving your number to anyway because you'll likely never interact directly with a client as a junior associate)

In sum, this is a profoundly neurotic question. No one could possibly give a shit.

If anyone would care or if it ever matters, it doesn't seem to bother me or anyone I work with or for.

I have two cell phones. An employer provided work phone and my personal phone. Neither phone number is the area code for the area code I currently reside in.

This has caused me 0 problems and 0 people have ever commented on it. Actually, I take that back, a few people have commented on the fact that recreational marijuana was recently legalized in the one area code but that's it.

Splitters aren't allowed to change their cell numbers

Moved to correct forum.

And OP, no, it doesn't matter. My cell number is from 3 cities ago. No one at work or calling me for work ever sees it. And if you do biglaw you'll get given a work phone.
