Is it worth it to participate in extra-curriculars other than journal / moot / mock? What about something like transactional law meets, where you develop negotiation / drafting skills... I will probably take courses in those topics anyway, so wondering if it's worth it to spend extra time doing the club competitions...

If you think you'll enjoy it... do it. The resume line item will be a good anchor point to describe a unique skill set that you have developed, and you will have networked with attorneys in the field.

If you think the work involved will adversely affect your GPA and/or pigeonhole you into an area of law that you have no interest in, skip it.

If you have work experience related to transactional work, it's probably unnecessary, but definitely can't hurt.

Extracurriculars are an interesting concept. When I was in school, I did more additional work than I wish I would have. There were times when I wondered why on earth I was doing that. But then I got a 40 hr/wk job where I don't ever do anything extra and I can't help but think maybe one of those extracurriculars helped. So three years of extra work paid off for me since I'll have a lifetime of no extra work. That was long winded, sorry.
