What are your opinions on relying solely on a commercial outline or making one but taking material from different outlines/supplements (gilberts). Do I really need to make my own?

Make your own outline. Outlines have very little worth during the exam (I use mine to make sure that I get phraseology and case names correct), but they're quite valuable to reteach you the material as you're putting the outline together.

Nothing wrong with using a commercial outline to get a second point of view as you're putting your outline together.

Most of the benefit of making an outline is it forces you to piece together all of the material from the semester, which (1) helps you remember it and (2) makes it easy to see the full forest. Insofar as being a tool on the test, an outline is pretty shitty. Flowcharts, instructions (if this fact -> do this) and diagrams would all be much more useful.

I would get an outline keyed to your particular professor instead of a commercial one OP. Outlinedepot.com. Does anyone know a good site to get flowcharts for 1L courses?
