Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Don't stress and just triple check your work during the exam? It's a 10-minute exam and you get an hour, with internet access. Only 2% of what you've studied will make it onto the exam, so it's not super-efficient to study comprehensively when you'll have time to look it up during the exam.ChristineBaskets wrote:Any tips?
Then again, I had a different prof and bombed my in-class LRW, so don't listen to me.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
The above advice is useful, internet all the way and triple check everything. It is also true that the Citation Workshop was most of the material. The answers are relatively easy when you see it, but you got to see it. So don't overthink it, but don't be lazy with it. My advice is confusing. Sorry.ChristineBaskets wrote:For DeLaurentis's in-class LRW exam:
What is the best way to prepare for this thing? Looking at past year's exams, it seems that 90% of the material is from her in-class Citation Workshop (which was covered in one day), and 0% of the material is from the required textbook (Tiscione). Yet, I'm reluctant to ignore the Tiscione book altogether. Not really sure what I'm even asking here... Any tips?

Also, there WILL be a case of "F.Supp." vs. "F. Supp.", I can almost guarantee it. And I still use my bluebook tabs from 1L, they're awesome.Gray wrote:Also Tiscione was not our book last year, and there was stuff from our book on the exam.EzraFitz wrote:The above advice is useful, internet all the way and triple check everything. I'd say in the citations some of the easier stuff to miss might be the correct reporter, correct abbreviations (state specific for statute names but also the BB abbreviation rules generally), or punctuation/capitalization. Tab your bluebook.

I know this is form a long time ago, but the GULC scholarship process starts in February, right?
Do I start bothering them for scholarship before then?

I wouldn't just sit on my hands though. I'd express interest in scholarships without being pushy. Maybe not until January or so but I would think it could be marginally helpful.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I mean, as a general rule, always email, I've never once had a professor even vaguely question a clearly bullshit reason. But if it's not on their syllabus, I bethink you they don't even know your name. I wouldn't stress. I only had one professor who truly cared, and he made is painfully clear.thelincolnlawyer wrote:Does anyone have anecdotal evidence whether there are repercussions for skipping a class if the Professor does a random sign-in sheet? Apparently I missed one yesterday, and it was only the 2nd time all semester the professor had done a sign-in sheet. We were not given a formal syllabus so I don't know their attendance policy. I'm guessing being on 1 of 2 sheets at the end does not look very good if they check it before grades are released. I didn't have a valid excuse for skipping so I did not let them know beforehand.

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
Best thing for Tague, have pre-written answers for possible questions. This saved me from outlining during the exam for at least one of the questions. If you look at his previous exams, they have minor variances, but are basically the same. You can also tell the differences between A, A-, B+, B exams that he has up there. I spent more time studying the previous exams than my outline. Have a position, mention as many theories and Rules as you can to support both positions, and you're golden.buckiguy_sucks wrote:Someone took tague for PR right? Dumb Question Alert
Since LRW is a cumulative, 4-credit course, that means the final grade will ultimately be equally influential (GPA-wise) as doctrinal courses, correct?
Curious because that graded memo was the absolute worst pile of garbage I've ever produced in my life.
(Also wondering: if writing a memo is physically painful for me, should I just pack it in on this whole "lawyer" thing?)

very unfortunately yes. the good news is its probably just as garbage for 90%-99% of your classmates
juries still out for me on whether my disastrous brief writing skillz mean i should've dropped out but in 2 deep at this point

Yes, the grade is equally influential as an individual 4 credit doctrinal.ChristineBaskets wrote:Dumb Question Alert

In terms of the memo writing, anecdotally I came into law school with very little writing experience, and found it extremely difficult, taking a lot of time to learn the ins and outs, suffering through a lot of garbage writing. But as time went on I got better, it got easier, and I no longer loathe it. I don't think one semester of LRW is a good indicator of writing as a lawyer.

Thanks guys.
On the one hand that's somewhat comforting. On the other, it would've been nice to get the "suffering through garbage writing" part out of the way before the final examEzraFitz wrote:Yes, the grade is equally influential as an individual 4 credit doctrinal.ChristineBaskets wrote:Dumb Question Alert

Re: GULC Students Taking Questions
I mean, when I say "through it", I much more mean that it gets easier to where it no longer feels like garbage. But you'll always be learning. And do lots of practice exams. It's a great way to just get hours in of legal writing.buckiguy_sucks wrote:I am still not through this after two externships and plenty of legal researchChristineBaskets wrote: it would've been nice to get the "suffering through garbage writing" part out of the way before the final exam
