Anyone live in Houston or go to Houston law school? I'm considering applying there for next fall and just want to get a vibe of job prospects and how much interaction there actually is between the students and the school, and the enormous companies based in Houston.

Under this website's profile for the school it claims 'the facilities and location of UH Law Center leave a lot to be desired...' - and I thought "location? Really? Houston is one of the biggest legal cities in the country..." Does this refer more to the specific location of the school in relation to 'where it's happening' in the city? Is it in a rough area of town? (note: I live out of state and it is not feasible for me to visit)

Thanks in advance.

p.s. not interested in any 'it isn't T-14 so don't go' comments. Just want to know about the school and city.

Most people will tell you both, but really just the latter. (Yes, there is crime in the area, but you're in the 4th largest city in the US; the crime rate in the UH area is not especially high, and of course the University has its own police force in addition to HPD's presence). The neighborhood surrounding the campus is lower-middle income residential area and therefore tends to lack housing stock or amenities of a quality attractive to students who want to live near campus. As a result, most students tend to live elsewhere, with those who want to live close to campus living in the midtown or Museum/Rice/Med Center areas.

Security on campus is probably just fine. Crime rates immediately on campus are on par with city averages, and thousands of sheltered, suburbanite families send their sheltered, suburbanite children to UH ever year and without incident. However, the area immediately surrounding UH is about one step above "ghetto", with a crime rate 2-3x city average, and yes, fairly poor housing options and amenities. I suspect that most UH law students live in other parts of town and "commute" to campus.

Hence,
