So, before going to law school I wanted to get some in depth legal experience. I had an interview with a big firm a few weeks ago and have a call back in the coming weeks. I am pretty confident I know what I will be asked, experiences and proficiency with Office. However, I will be interviewing with a few attorneys from the practice group I would be working in. Does anyone have any tips on questions I should ask them to build a rapport? I was thinking things like what led you to this firm, how can I best be utilized and be the most help to you, and do you have any reservations about my qualifications for the job? Any other tips would be appreciated.

You're not really going to get "in depth legal experience" as a legal assistant, and you're probably not going to have a good time if you get this job. It's for sure a good idea to get experience around the profession before choosing to start law school, but there are other ways to do this that can start you along another career path in case you choose not to attend. But, if you don't have other options right now, it's a job.

As far as interviewing: don't ask inhuman questions you googled/found on some crappy linkedin post. Definitely don't ask the q I bolded, at least not framed this way; it will make you seem insecure af, and if they wanted you to explain something else/clear something up, they would have asked you.

as far as questions to build rapport, asking your interviewer what led him/her to the firm is always credited. then you can ask a follow-up question or two based on the response given.

then of course you can ask questions about the job itself, if you have those. that's not to build rapport, but rather to do your diligence on the position and seem like the sort of person who does diligence on the jobs she applies for.

If you're worried about actually getting something that resembles in-depth work experience, you should be targeting boutiques and smaller firms. The less people who work there, the more likely you get put on leanly staffed cases and less binder-creating/shit-rolls-down-hill work.
