TLS's Prestige in Gaps theories
Whenever something TLS finds prestigious, for example, clerking, law review, going to HYS, it always overhypes the benefits. Then when people start speaking out against their assumptions, they retreat, but only the extent they are proven wrong. HYS? Only places slightly more into big law? WELL it's HUGE for government! Most clerks go back to their their 2L firm? WELL, it's HUGE for DC!? Oh, nobody in DC cares, well it's HUGE for government.
Basically, TLS common wisdom is that prestigious things are hugely beneficial in the gaps of where it's been proven not extremely beneficial.
This has got to stop.

I thought the benefit of HYS for biglaw isn't that their placement numbers are ridiculously higher than the rest of the T14, but that nearly anyone who wants biglaw there can get it.

But that means almost anyone from the t14 does too. Which is my view of it.furrrman wrote:I thought the benefit of HYS for biglaw isn't that their placement numbers are ridiculously higher than the rest of the T14, but that nearly anyone who wants biglaw there can get it.

Don't forget the easier access to V[low arbitrary number] firms.

you are forgetting about bottles and models, DF. The latter (models) are just lining up in droves for HLS grads, but much less so than say, WashU.
