UVA suddenly, drastically increases tuition

Post by TLSNerd » Thu Jun 05, 2014 3:09 pm

I made my decision about which law school to attend (UVA) by considering my financial situation and the tuition listed on the UVA law website. I calculated my three year tuition as being $143,700.

I sent in my deposit a little while ago.

I checked the website again yesterday and saw that the tuition has gone up, so that NOW the three year tuition for me would be $155,400.

I made the deposit based on one set of numbers, and now UVA changed the numbers on me. Is this an ethical action by UVA?

It plainly identifies that the costs are for a specific year though and says at the very beginning that each year COAs are established. So why would it be variable?

Schools increase tuition every single year. You won't pay 155k. You'll probably pay closer to 162-163k.

Are you using in-state / out-of-state tuition numbers correctly?

Hope you aren't paying sticker here...

Basically every top school does it. It is common knowledge that you need to factor in a ~5% tuition increase into your calculations every year.
