Top Law Schools

Alright so here's the deal. I have a friend whose considering getting his MBA. He asked me for some advice about the admissions process. As someone whose gone through the law school admissions process I told him about my experiences. However, I am not sure how it works so I figured I'd ask people here. I know a decent number of people have MBA's or are JD/MBA.

1. Does the GPA calculation work the same as the LSAT? Does MBA admissions take into account every grade that you have received in your college career or just your final GPA?
2. My friend is diverse. Do business schools take into account URM status? If not for admissions purposes, but for scholarship chances.
3. Is there a Top-14 similar to ours in the business school world. I have heard some mention of a Top-7 before.
4. Is there a forum out there with similar information to TLS for MBA students? I have been on this website for two years and it has provided me with valuable information. Is there somewhere my friend could go?
5. Finally does getting a top MBA matter as much as going to a top law school? Is it better to obtain your MBA at a regional school with no debt, or go out of state to one of the better programs?

1. There is no standard GPA calculation process. You self-report your GPA and send in a copy of your transcript. About 1 in 3 MBA candidates is from outside the US so nobody has an official process. Most schools just say it's "holistic".
2. B-schools care a lot about diversity, but "diversity" is a much wider term than it is for law school. It includes race, gender, socioeconomic class, geographic location, and life experiences. There's really no numbers boost for diverse candidates. They just have a better chance of getting in once they have the right numbers.
3. The M7 is like the top 6 IMO. The T14 of business schools is IMO the B-schools of the Top 14 minus Georgetown plus MIT and Dartmouth.
4. GMAT Club and Wall Street Oasis are pretty solid.
5. MBA programs are really hurting right now w/r/t placement. On the exterior, job placement in % terms looks good, but a lot of people, even at the top schools, are going back to their old jobs for slightly more pay. You have to keep in mind that almost everyone who matriculates in B-school left a job to attend so the fact that a lot of people can't find jobs on the other end is incredible.

An MBA is essentially a right of entitlement. You learn a little bit, but most of the time, you're getting drunk with your classmates and networking. It's viewed as a 2 year vacation by many, especially by people at the top schools.
