To touch on a small part of your post, have you found out much about the benefits of having a security clearance as a lawyer? I'm retiring next month, so my clearance won't be "active", but my last Periodic Reinvestigation was in late 2012, and it's a five-year cycle, so I think it would be pretty easy to have it re-activated if needed, and I'm definitely putting it on my resume. I just don't know if it would be useful in anything other than a FEDGOV job.

As seen in the other thread, I've been trying to decide what to do in this exact same situation, minus the family. Would be nice to have the clearance, health benefits, extra cash etc... Career counselor promised me two years of non-deployment, a chill unit, and a promotion.
I was on the fence until one of my buddies pointed out that NTC and JRTC rotations are not deployments. Maybe you won't have one, but who knows. There is a huge opportunity cost if, for example, you are unable to do an SA during your 2L summer because you have orders to spend 29 days playing OPFOR at Ft. Irwin.
Like you, I would love some stories from people who have been there/done that, but I think a clean break is the way to go.

have an E-7 army active reservist in my section at NU and he seems to have gotten through 1L perfectly fine. I know he had to do a few weekends too.
