Top Law Schools

I'm bored. You're deciding on a law school. I honestly believe that NYU is the best law school in the country. AMA.

Do you live in the dorms? If not, where? Do you think more people live on or off campus?

Lived in the dorms first year, moved off campus this year. It's a pretty even mix; the dorms are a bit expensive and, you know, dorms, but you can't beat the location, not just in terms of proximity to the law school but nightlife, great restaurants, what have you. Honestly, if I was telling someone why to pick NYU over Columbia, it's all about Greenwich Village. It's a great place to spend your time in.

Ok I'll keep going, do you feel the cost of living estimate the school provides is accurate? My biggest concern about going to school in NYU is how expensive the city is.

Do you know people who actually borrowed sticker? Or do most people not receiving aid have savings/family money to help out? And are these students having panic attacks daily or only weekly?

Honestly, the school's estimates are pretty on point. New York can be crazy expensive, but as long as you're not going to concerts and shows and fancy restaurants, stuff doesn't cost that much more here than it does elsewhere. It's tough to call a couple thousand dollars marginal, but we're mostly in line with other top private law schools when it comes to cost of attendance. Yes, rent is a bitch, (and movies are $14.50, but NYU sells student tickets for ~$10) but I'm not finding myself running out of money long before the end of the semester. My friends--and, I'd guess, most people at the school--borrow up to the cost of living, and have plenty of spending money for short vacations, the occasional splurge, and lots and lots of alcohol.

It's a pretty even mix; I definitely know plenty of people who have borrowed sticker, and they'll cut corners a little more than most people (if you want, you can eat for free pretty much every day at the law school by sneaking in to some event, then sneaking out with a plate full of pizza or Thai food), but they seem to be pretty comfortable with their decisions, though it's easy to say that after OCI. I definitely got the sense that they were studying and approaching EIW that with a little more urgency. (Personally, I'm paying sticker, and borrowed to pay for tuition, books, and some spending money, and basically have my family/savings paying my rent.) But that's the thing with NYU--almost everyone who wants a firm job is going to get it, and if people want to go the PI route, we have a great LRAP program and PI career services. It'll take those guys a bit longer to repay their loans than others, but that seems to be the only real difference.

Did you live in Mercer or Dag? Which would you recommend? Thanks!
