Dress Code for Class?

Silly 0L question here. what do people wear to class in law school? My Undergrad was a big state school where the uniform was pretty much leggings and sorority gear for women and equally casual clothes for men. I figured law school was a cut above but do people dress up for class? Are jeans okay? Is it highly school specific ?

Thank so much!

Jeans are fine. Wear what you would wear to like dinner with friends.

You're fine as long as you don't look like a slob or a hooker.

Tux, monocle, top hat.

The monocle is key.

Wore a T shirt and jeans most days. Maybe a polo shirt or other button-down shirt from time to time. Almost all girls would dress in a similarly casual manner. In the end, school is school.

I remember exactly zero times where I've ever noticed or cared about anyone's clothing. I'm sure the same is true for most people. Profs usually wear suits to class, but I've seen some looking pretty prole on days when they're not teaching. Doubt they ever notice what students wear.

Cue the fat yeti dude wearing a banana hammock and nothing else first day of class.

Interrogative, professor: Is clothing speech? IS IT PROTECTED?

In my class there are people who wear a suit every day, lots of people who wear button down shirts, all the way down to people wearing basketball shorts or even pajamas to class.

You're right, it was a silly question. People dress however they want to dress. There's a 3L who wears a suit every day. There's a 1L who wears a dress shirt every day. There are girls who wear yoga pants everyday even though they shouldn't. That being said, law school is a professional school (in theory) and so it can't hurt to dress nice but not worthing going to restock your entire wardrobe in order to clothe yourself. Wear what you want, and wear the clothes that you feel comfortable having others see you in.

I think if you wear a suit to class and it isn't for work or something, you look like a tool. But I also wouldn't wear pajamas either. Anything in between is cool

You can wear whatever you want. That said, occasionally a fellow 1L might gchat you and tell you to come to some lunch panel because there's good food and entertaining attorneys. There will be other times you'll forget you RSVP'd to some firm reception. Keep a clean collared shirt in your locker just in case.

agreed. I knew people who wore their suits for OCI or their jobs around school all day like a humble brag. I always changed on my out or to the interview.

I told my (lawyer; not shitboomer) boss that i'm gonna wear biz cazj every day (because after 5 years of working my whole wardrobe is biz cazj) and she said my classmates will definitely develop a mocking nickname for me if I do so.

She went to H in the late 90s and wore a grey sweatshirt the whole time, apparently.

Dress to impress. When the professor will have to decide between tens of papers that sound fairly similar, s/he will probably give the benefit of the doubt to the student who took the class seriously.
