How do you know if you are working hard enough during 1L?

So the school year is about to start and I'm wondering how one should go about gauging their progress during the year. In prior classes you could basically just see if you understood the material but now you have to wonder if you understand/can apply it better than your classmates. At what point do you say I have worked hard enough or I understand this concept well enough to be done for the day?
Thanks in advance

I assume you are asking this question so that you know when you can stop or scale back. This is the wrong mindset.
Work as hard as you can without endangering your mental and physical health. Also, go to bar review- it will keep you sane.

You can always work harder, and I'm not being flippant when I say that. To do well in LS you have to work HARD, but also smart.

Aside from the random midterm, a good way to test understanding is by going to office hours.
