This is just speculative, but I think that can absolutely be spun in a way that will benefit your search. Emphasize the hours, your general interest in the law, working in a professional environment w/ attorneys, etc. Then discuss how your experiences also made you realize that you prefer PI and contrast your Big Law experiences with your previous PI work.

I would be shocked if it hurt you compared to doing nothing, but it would be better to have some post graduate PI experience. Especially if you are interested in non-government work, it would be good to see how those organizations work as a full time employee if you haven't before. It would also be good to demonstrate that you actually want to do PI legal work instead of just PI work generally.

I don't know of any (but my PI interests are government focused). You could try reaching out to your local legal aid office or maybe ask the pro bono coordinator at your firm.

I would say your job as a biglaw paralegal has almost no bearing on whether or not you will wind up working in PI.

If you go get a 2L SA at a vault firm, then your record might start to show a partiality towards corporate work. Stay clear of that and you're perfectly fine
