Taking 0L Questions on ADD and ADHD

Post by Shema » Sat Jul 13, 2013 2:31 pm

Any 0L's concerned about and ADD or ADHD diagnosis? Some law students have struggled with either ADD or ADHD before entering law school and as 0L's may be concerned about whether your diagnosis will substantially impair your ability to compete given the long hours it takes students without a diagnosis to complete reading cases, briefing or completing legal research and writing deadlines.

Most law schools do offer resources such as longer time to write exams (although some students shy away from it out of fear that their peers will find out). However, schools tend to do a pretty good job of handling the testing in a way that you are protected from other finding out. Also, professors are not aware of how much time you had for an exam versus others so that you are graded on the same playing field as all of your peers (that is to say subject to the same arbitrary grading everyone is lol).
The bar exam offers special testing conditions to examinees with these diagnoses as well.

My personal opinion is that if you have a legitimate diagnosis think carefully about taking advantage of the testing conditions and don't be so quick not to out of fear of being labeled.

I know this is a bit of a taboo subject and that people who may want to comment may not feel comfortable so PM if you would like to talk more openly.
