POLL: How Many in Biglaw Use Performance Enhancers?

For those working in biglaw, I'm curious how common it is to see/know of people who use "performance enhancers" (not just coffee/Red Bull, but more powerful) in order to stay awake, keep more alert, etc., given the sometimes long hours you all need to work?
Are these normally of the legal sort or do people even go so far as to take illegal substances?

If it is used for the purposes of biglaw work enhancement, then yes. If done recreationally just for personal, non-work related enjoyment, then probably no.

The profile of those who attend elite law schools and net corporate law positions suggests a modest to heavy amount of stimulant use/abuse, whether via prescription or illicit sharing and purchasing. Myself and everyone I knew in UG at least occasionally used addy's or vivs -- 10mg xr's will do for a night -- whether snorted or ingested, for all nighters or test boosters. Sometimes I'd bum Concerta off richer friends. Im sure those who used in UG continued in law school, although it could be a prohibitively expensive study aid in law school when everyones broke and in debt (if your paying $5-8 for 20mg, it adds up, prescription ~$160/month is probably easier).
At a large firm addy/vivance are far more affordable earning market salary and I would guess their use would be commonplace in such a stressful and work intensive environment. However, narcotics addiction is really shitty so I would think most people would want to cut it by 25-26. To each his own I guess

This is actually an interesting question... I don't know why he had to make it useless by making it the total number of people rather than the percentage of people one knows who use PEDs. He could have at least made his last post not useless

I think percentages would be sort of "useless" without knowledge of the whole. There's no telling how many people a person is including into the pool (10% of 100 ...or 10% out of 20 biglaw associates they know....or perhaps 50% out of 10, etc.).

We have all come to expect a certain quality of thread from scifiguy. It would be disingenuous for his last post to be different.

i think we need George Mitchell to open up an investigation of the use of PEDs in biglaw. it will be followed by sanctions. we need to clean up biglaw, people are losing faith in the purity of the game!
