how much should I expect to earn during my SA?

from what I understand no one (?) makes money during their 1L summer for whatever job they find, but they do for their 2L SA. I am wondering what is the range of pay (give or take) for 2L SA? and should I expect to earn $0 during my 1L summer?

I'm a 0L too but since no one is answering, I can tell you many T14s (and maybe others?) offer stipends around $5k for your first summer if it's unpaid and public interest (judicial internships don't count for some reason).
Someone who's done an SA should be more specific, but AFAIK you make around $40k (ie your $160k yearly salary for three months) minus taxes. Your taxes are initially taken out as if you're making $160k but I think you can get a lot of it back when you file that year.

Some firms pay around $3,000 per week for 10-weeks to SAs.

For NYC & DC, their $160K base breaks down to $3,076 a week. Satellite offices like Atlanta, Philly, Miami, etc., pay around $145K, or $2,788 a week.
I suspect smaller boutiques bottom out at $125K, $2,400 a week. Not shabby summer $$... $480 a day. Of course you might think Texas big where a couple of their BL firms pay $175K… your basic $84 an hour paper shuffling gig!

Jay, I have been following you for awhile, and I know your goals, but you seem to really be putting the cart before the horse here.
To answer, you get the prorated full year salary. In NYC it's about $3076/week minus taxes.

You're totally right about the horse/cart. I'm just overseas and without a lot to do so I have time to wonder about these things
