it seems that mid and lower T14s have trouble getting 1L SA's even when the students are top 20%. is this the same for YSH?

i'm a 0L in at S but am trying to deal with scholarships from mid T-14s and comparing summer money prospects. thanks in advance

Don't decide on schools based on prospects for 1L SA. Only 15%-20% of 1Ls at HYS have 1L SA.

1L SA's are more about school/where you are from than grades, well at least when compared with 2L. Unless your getting a near full from CCN just accept Stanford, it will save you a lot of stress.

There are over 950 students at YHS combined and I would venture to guess that there aren't even 950 non-diversity 1L SAs in the whole country. Don't count on making money your first summer.

You should choose Stanford though.

this is not true, but they're really hard to get.

I'd be surprised if there are anywhere close to 950 non-diversity IL SAs

Are you from TX or the Southeast? If not dont base where you go on that. If you are from TX or Birmingham, you will have no problem at all getting a 1L SA in the top 20%

I've heard of an advantage in TX, but not about the southeast. Can anyone elaborate a little? Would being from Atlanta and having gone to UG in Alabama give me any sort of boost in the ATL or Birmingham markets for 1L?

So you think that on average there are fewer than 20 1L SA per state? I go to a T1 and I personally know three 2Ls who had a 1L SA. None are minorities. I have to assume that every T14 has a small double digit (10-40) number of 1ls who get an SA.

There were definitely fewer than 20 non-diversity 1L SAs in my state. I'd be kinda surprised if it hit double-digits. (For context, there's almost no biglaw out here according to NYC biglaw standards - Martindale lists 14 firms of 250+ out here.)

I wouldn't go that far. Over 3.85 at UT. No 1L SA yet.

Thats because you dont go to a T10.

3.6x at mvp and just got my 5th offer from TX biglaw firms today.

I out T10 because friends at other T10 schools are doing about the same as me, but friend at Gtown with great grades is not.

You're obviously from Texas? Non-texans can't raid that market for 1L, right?

Yeah, I am.
No if you are not from Texas and have not lived permanently in TX for at least some years before law school, then it is very unlikely.

Eh, no. Your reasoning is pretty specious. I know two GWers that had Texas 1L SAs and another that had an offer there and went elsewhere, so they're not prestige whoring that hard. You've spent way too much time on here if you think that "T10" is a distinction that resonates anywhere but this forum. Most of the people I worked with last summer couldn't name the "T10" with 15 tries.

You're also crazy if you think you would get a job in Texas over an equally qualified and likable Texas student because you go to MVP. With five 1L summer offers you should give yourself more credit, you obviously interview very well. Or have an IP background.
