i know our curve is 3.2, but is there any way to figure out what one's class rank might be? i've seen this calculator below, but currently have no data points to enter. any further color would help me bring my heart rate down a little...thanks!

There really isn't. The best you can usually do is anecdotes. (Your class year might yield the best info; I'm assuming 1L).

Somewhere around-to-above 3.4 is usually within 35% if you're a 1L. (I had 3.33 and 3.35 as a 1L and I was not TM.) I think I remember hearing that 3.7 was GW (15%) at a 1L, but I was never really worried about where that cutoff fell.

The numbers tend to rise a bit over time. By graduation, the honors (40%) cutoff is in the mid-3.4s.

p.s., scholar designations aren't released until all grades are in, so don't freak out yet if you think you might have one.

Grades are given on a curve (e.g. bell curve but not always an exact bell curve).
The shape of the distribution is given by the mean and the standard deviation. So the second number i.e. 3.6 is top 10% gives the standard deviation (with maths).
In short you need the second number, maybe talk to someone who was ranked the previous year to get some more data points.

1L Thurgood is around 3.4, GW is actually more like 3.6+. But that was my year. It changes slightly from year to year.

thanks for the help guys. not looking for honors so much as wondering what this will look like for my summer job apps, and how to anticipate how much i'm going to have to boost things for spring sem. one of the particular numbers somebody used is very relevant to my interests, and would be certainly alright for the first round with these exams. i'll talk to 2L's tomorrow if i spot any discreet ones i know, and if any others want to chime in with data points, much appreciated!
