Am I screwed?

Freaking out right now guys. I had a Torts "midterm" 10% of the grade.. and I received 2nd highest score in the class, but for Legal Pro. our first paper (30%) I received a horrid 20.75 out of 30, the class was curved to a 23.75. This class is 3 credit hours. How bad will this hurt my gpa by end of the semester? Any chance of recovering? Is this any indication to me doing poorly in other subjects?

If I say you're fucked will you just drop out? What do you hope to gain by this.

talk to your prof to see where your major issues are... Do the same for the midterm. But in a midterm that is only worth 10% of your grade, you can just chalk this up to a slight participation bonus and forget about it. The only thing that matters is the final in that class ( assuming you dont have any other work to turn in)...
See how it all shapes up at the end of the semester. Its too late to get your refund now, so might as well finish the degree

Drop out, retake, apply ED to UVA.
You're welcome.

I failed my first memo and got the lowest grade in the class. Ended up like top 2%. One memo isn't your year, but just have to slam your doctrinal classes now

Heh. Me too. You'll be fine. Figure out what you did wrong and fix it.

Yeah, what lisavj said. I took a pretest for legal writing and got the lowest grade in the class. I spent time working on it and got top third on the first assignment. I've been improving since then, and we'll see where I end up.
It's not where you start that counts, it's where you end up. Don't sweat the small shit.

sorry to hear it, but glad to see i'm not the only person that fails at legal writing:/ i think the biggest mistake you can make is to allow legal writing to screw up your performance in other classes. best of luck!

You're fine.
Try to gain a better understanding of what the Legal Writing professor expects (ask for a model if possible). Try looking at briefings on westlaw for larger cases and issues as a guidepost.
Just remember, write in simple and short sentence. Organize your ideas clearly.
Profit.
If all else fails, how you do in legal writing your first year will not dictate your career.
Period.
