Law preview class

Is the Law Preview class a waste of time?
I have never taken notes on a laptop before and I'm thinking it would help me pick that skill up as well as outlining and case briefing.
The class would end a month before school even starts for me so still plenty of time for me to relax before real classes.

Edit: apparently the answer is they are a waste

Complete waste.

Also, don't brief cases.

If you're getting a scholarship and can go for free, why not take advantage?

Total waste of time, and a shameless money grab. You don't need a class to teach you how to read and brief cases. In fact, you should ideally phase out formal briefing pretty quickly.

Because it's a complete waste of time, and at the end of the semester will not put you at any advantage over the rest of your class.

Just want to echo these sentiments. Complete waste of time, even if it's free. Also, don't brief cases, unless it's the first two weeks and your professor is a jerk.

I actually disagree with the general sentiment expressed here. I got one of the scholarships to attend and I'm glad that I did. Not sure I would've shelled out $1000+ of my own money, but I felt it was worth it for me. Will it help me immensely in the Fall? Probably no more than reading G2M or some of the other books people have suggested here, but I really can't see how it'll hurt me. The only way it could hurt you is if you take everything they say verbatim and get burnt out in the process. (I think most people are smart enough to understand that there is no 'magic formula' for first year success and that all outside tips/suggestions are merely that.)

I went, I liked it. I read a lot of stuff online, but until you actually experience it and get a feel for the actual amount of work you'll need to do, then you will never know. Basically, I was able to hit the ground running in 1L, and the entire 1st semester, I was able to stay 2-3 wks ahead of the rest of my class. While they were figuring out how to crawl, I was learning how to walk, by the time they learned to walk, I was running. etc. While everyone picks up things at a different pace, any help is beneficial. Plus, you get to meet some new friends that you can talk to who's also in law school, but not at your school. You'll find out that you don't want to talk too much w/ ppl in your class about class itself due to the competitive nature of LS itself.

Keep in mind that most people saying it's a waste didn't go, or heard it from a friend of a sister's cousin's cat's pet mouse...
