Anyone have success stories of blind emailing moderately sized firms or smaller boutique firms for summer associate positions? BigLaw is not really an option for those of us in TTT/TTTT law schools (therefore, very limited OCI representation in the fall), but many smaller sized firms do not even advertise openings, yet have resume submission links on their websites. Anyone have experience dealing with this?

Go to the attorney roster of any of these midlaw/boutique firms. See attorneys from T3/T4 law schools. There's your success stories. (OK, not all were summer associates, but presumably some of them were.)
Seriously, small firms may not even know if they have openings - but they can make openings once they see a candidate who is a good fit.
I think the usual advice is mail away. That's the right approach regardless of how many or how few success stories you hear.
