Top Law Schools

Are these actually important for getting your 1L summer internship? I had an internship last year from the Fall through the Winter. However I don't think I will be able to have time for an internship for this summer due to some personal family reasons. I've been accepted to a bunch of law schools and for that I'm very happy but I'm wondering if I'm missing out on a big thing by not having a 0L summer internship? Does it matter at all or should I relax and enjoy my time off before law school hits in August?

Does not matter.

I did a 0L internship, and the place I worked has helped me communicate more effectively why I'm interested in the places I've applied to during the 1L recruiting season. If you already have other things on your resume that can serve this function, there is little to be gained. I also made a lot of money, so there's that too.

I've also had several interviewers that seemed puzzled that I did an internship right before going to law school.

Just enjoy the last free summer of your life. Unless you become unemployed or filthy rich.

My 0L summer experience is what ultimately impressed my employer for this 2L summer.

0L experience can help you get what you want for 1L summer (and beyond). I am glad I did not take the summer off before law school. Regardless of whether you take summer off or not, when you're caught up in all the things of law school, you won't be looking back and thinking that you wished you took the summer off. You'll only look forward to the next break.

And now I have 1L SA spot.

I did nothing and it worked out well for my 1L summer. I recommend taking time off to start law school fresh.
