I know this is a dumb question but barring you telling someone, do other people know your 1L grades? It's it transparent or like posted with the last few numbers of your student ID/SSN?

Only school administrators and your professors know your 1L grades (professors only know the one they gave you). I think almost all schools now use an online registrar system that you can view your grades in, they are not posted anywhere that is publicly accessible.
