How does one help people as a lawyer, or; how to not lose on
Alright, I dream of going to a top law school, working in BigLaw, and becoming filthy rich. But I have a nagging feeling that I will be unhappy after a while, and will bail to do something a little more humanitarian with my JD. My question is simple - how can a lawyer who desires to help people do so?

Has anyone ever seen an original post so full of fail?
OP, have you taken the LSAT? Taken practice tests? Do you have any other reason for wanting to study law than becoming filthy rich or helping people? You can do both without being a lawyer.

I have taken practice tests. I've done my research. I have many reasons for studying law, and I'm aware that you can help people without becoming a lawyer, and possibly become rich. Chill...

Saw you got a 163 on a PT with 0 prep. That's truly awesome. Yet you still managed to ask a truly dumb question, even for a 0L. How can you help people, as a lawyer? It's like asking a random volunteer of a random charity how you can help people as a volunteer, generally.
First, you're going to need to figure out what type of law practice you enjoy. Then you find out if you're good at it. That's not exactly something other people are going to be able to tell you.

Fair enough, it was a pretty general question. I guess I should have specified... I'm interested in litigation. Is being a criminal defense attorney rewarding? What's the pay like? I'll just do a google search.

lol, criminal defense. That's still pretty vague, and no one here can tell you if you'll find it rewarding. Do you mean being a public defender, or private?MOOBCINOS wrote:Fair enough, it was a pretty general question. I guess I should have specified... I'm interested in litigation. Personally, even though criminal law (class) was awesome, and Jack McCoy was the reason I first got interested in law in 7th grade, I really doubt that I'd be able to stomach the practice of criminal law. Prosecution, maybe. But for personal reasons I'd be unable to prosecute anyone on drug charges, so I don't know how that'd work. Defense (especially PD)? I'd probably off myself after a year.
