Realistically speaking, what is the % of law students who end up in BigLaw after graduation?

Yea, I wasn't counting clerkship people who end up in biglaw, and also assumed a lot of UVA people go into bigfedgov.lawyerwannabe wrote:Seems a bit low for UVA.
The percentage is probably pretty close to 50%+.
BigFedGov straight from law school is a total myth ITE. More of a myth than MidLaw.c3pO4 wrote:Yea, I wasn't counting clerkship people who end up in biglaw, and also assumed a lot of UVA people go into bigfedgov.lawyerwannabe wrote:Seems a bit low for UVA.

Thank you.thesealocust wrote:This is the best available data. Is is old, and unfortunately the market is not as strong now, but it will show you how all schools place relative to one another.

More recent (but still not very recent) and less complete data:

For comparison's sake, it's fair to approximate biglaw placement as NLJ 250 placement. It's not perfect, but it's good enough.

Well.2LLLL wrote:I don't purport to have exact numbers for any of these schools. But the idea that Gtown is equivalent to UVA makes me LOL. UVA has a lot more pull than Georgetown in DC, and a lot more pull nationwide.
My understanding is based solely on my anecdotal experiences going to another school in the greater DC market (which can be broadly defined to include numerous schools in DC, MD, and VA). Georgetown seems to be really struggling, as I know a lot of GULC students who don't have anything... GULC's problem is that they're a T14 (and not even really that any more) without a home market....

According to the linked charts for the class of 2009, NLJ250 employment (with Clerkship in parentheses)
Lots of assumptions, but oh well
UVA - 53% (11%)
GULC - 43% (5%)
UCLA - 35% (5%)
Davis - 17% (3%)
Hastings - 15% (1%)
