Awesome, yes.
Not sure, but most stay in wi/midwest (mostly by choice)

Power running isn't sexy. Wisconsin uses power running. Therefore, Wisconsin is not sexy. Conversely, Oregon, which has no defense comparable to yours, ours (Ok, my UG, not necessarily my future law school's), or Iowa's, has sky rocketed.Panther7 wrote:I have no idea, we get zero respect from the media (really, 11?). Yeah, I think you guys ought to beat MSU; but it should be a game, even if D'antonio is not on the field.
Um, pertaining to this thread.... Hoping for a 165ish or higher for a good chance of admission!

If you are not an athlete or someone trying to hook up with an athlete, there's not much of a reason to go to KK instead of somewhere else

UG here at UW Madison but happy to weigh in on factors not directly related to the rigors of the law school. First off Madison is an incredible place, brimming with activity and energy! State street provides an array of restaurants, ranging from the mundane staples of college dining-subway, chipotle, potbelly's, etc.-to the more exciting (make sure you try Rising Son's deli or Fresco restaurant, a particularly good date spot with a breathtaking view of the capital). Those willing to venture beyond State Street will find incredible restaurants in Madison; try Sardine for brunch!
The UG bar scene and football Super Saturdays contribute to weekend social agendas (try Tuesday Flip Night at State Street Brats, Monday Bacon Night at Wandos or Wednesday Beer and Shot night at the KK if you are looking for some typical UG fun). For the more mature crowd still seeking potent potables ventures out towards the Capital, where bars are free of sophomores toting fake IDs and ordering rounds of Long Islands. Try the Great Dane, a casual restaurant/bar featuring local Wisconsin beers. Before you arrange an intervention on my behalf, know that there is way more to do in Madison than just frequent bars. The weekly Farmer's Market provides excellent people watching and incredible eats! If you are a jogger, or merely enjoy a scenic view, I suggest running along the Lake Shore Path to Picnic point (weather permitting). Art Museums and concerts at the Orphium or Overture Center offer variety and culture. And you simply can't beat the view at the Union-right on the water!

Where do most law students live? Is there a forum on which incoming 1L's find one another to get a place?

They live all over. A number live near the capital, others live right next to the law school, others live 5 miles away and take a bus to the school (the public transportation is good here, free bus pass with tuition, bus stop right next to school). It really depends on how far you want to be in winter (and how far from the bars!!!!) and how much you're willing to pay for that. I know several people found roommates either on here, craiglist (etc.) or on the incoming class facebook group (a lot of this went on there: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=483301220264 Not sure if you can see it or not). And despite what you may hear, living with a fellow law student is not bad at all, even a 2L or 3L. Only bad thing is that your apartment is a mess during finals since nobody wants to take time to clean.
As for employment, most people stay in Wisconsin (no bar, and this state is awesome). Some go to bordering states, and I think it's like 83% or something really high stay in the Midwest. The rest most likely represents those who came to school here from the coasts who wanted to go back despite our awesomeness. From what I gather, most people who go the big firm route from Wisconsin stick to Minneapolis/Milwaukee/Chicago markets. But I don't know much about this yet, maybe someone else knows better than me.

Seems WI doesn't give a lot of $
I know residency is impossible to establish, but do OOS applicants ever receive scholarship so that they pay instate tuition?
upper 160s lsat and 3.4+ gpa
what are 2-3 strengths/weaknesses of the school?
thoughts on the rest of the class? what do WI grads want to do when graduate?

I don't believe they offer schollys like that, they just award money from whatever your going rate is. And they do give money, just not a lot to instates. I know plenty of people who have some money.37duncan wrote:Seems WI doesn't give a lot of $

Strengths:
Wisconsin Law, along with no bar exam requirement to practice in WI.
Criminal Law
They teach you practical lawyering
Weakness:
Clerkships (although school is trying to address this, seems to be more of a self selecting thing than inability to get)
Writing Program (only one semester and in the spring, while some love this idea, kinda leaves you behind)
WI grads are just like grads from every other law school in the country, they want to get a job doing what they love, and what that is varies from student to student.

Wasn't aware of that, I guess it won't matter much in the long run. Does anyone know anything about the University Apartments (Eagle Heights/University Houses/Harvey Street Apartments)? I'm worried about:
A) Lots of kids running around,
B) Lots of undergrads stumbling around, and
C) Tiny-ass kitchens
Harvey Street is grad students only, but they're furnished (not necessary, or even desired) and they just don't sound that nice. Anyone have experience with these? Seen them? Advice?
