This year will be my first year in law school. Unfortunately I would be going to the school I wanted to go to. My GPA was a 3.85 but my LSAT was terrible. I was wait listed at George Mason, Maryland, and American (American later rejected me) The only school I was accepted to was University of Baltimore. To be safe I enrolled in Bmore. Well its July and I still have not heard from Maryland of Mason so I’m stuck with Baltimore. I really Do Not want to go to Univ of Bmore. I plan of transferring after this year. Do anyone have any advice! I don’t know what to do!!!

Have you sent letters to Maryland and George Mason stating that you are still very interested in their schools and would attend if accepted off the waitlist? If not, do this.
If you don't want to go to Baltimore, don't go. It is not easy to transfer and you can't guarantee that will be possible.
If you really got a 3.85 gpa, RETAKE THE LSAT and reapply.

Yes I sent them letters and my updated transcript. on Jun 30th Mason said "We are at capacity currently. However, we still think people are going to withdraw and we will be making more admissions. We just don't know when that will happen."

I took the LSAT twice.... I dont know how much better I'll do the 3rd time.

You say that you are confused in the thread title, but you seem to be certain that you don't want to attend UBalt. This leaves you riding waitlists. I'm sure that this is a difficult time for you, but doesn't seem confusing. Just don't let yourself somehow settle for UB. You won't succeed there if you are not happy to go there.

Don't do it. Run very quickly in the opposite direction.

I am confused. I know I dont want to go to Bmore but I dont know if I should still go and try to tranfer or take the LSAT again and try to go next school year.

Of these two options 1000x the latter!

I see. Well, you have, what, a 90% chance of being deeply unhappy if you attend UB (since the top 10% are in a position to transfer)? Even supposing that it is top 20% transfering, those are not good odds. It just sounds like you need to block UB off as an option, and focus on your other possible paths, such as getting in off waitlists, or giving it a shot again next year with a retake.

Say that out loud 10 times. Then tell yourself that you shouldn't spend three years of your life and god knows how much money doing something you really do not want to do.

With a GPA that high you can absolutely get into the University of Maryland (I'm assuming you're from Maryland if UBalt was even on the table). If you want to practice in the state UM is the way to go. All you have to do is buckle down and get a respectable LSAT score. Spending 1 year doing this + 3 years at UM will leave you much happier than 3 years at UBalt.

I took a prep course in June for the September test and I practiced on my own. In Aug I decided I wasn’t ready for the Sept test. I re-took the prep course and studied for the Dec test. I didn’t do well so I studied some more and took the Feb test only to get the same score from the Dec test.

Don't go to a school you won't be happy going to. 1L can be a shitty experince, if you already don't want to be there, this just makes it worse.

Why did you apply there if you did not want to go if you got in?

DO NOT GO TO A SCHOOL PLANNING TO TRANSFER...you are setting yourself up for failure as previous posters have mentioned. Retake that test and apply later with some work experience. Make yourself a better applicant so maybe you can get into the school of your choice.

I would take the LSAT once or twice more and if I couldn't raise it enough to go to a T1 with that GPA, I would consider another graduate school option.

Oh, and don't go to Bmore.

How bad an LSAT are we talking about here?

Can you give us a range? Did you prep? Did you improve over your first score?

Any school you go to, you should go to assuming you will not be able to transfer. The odds of failure are 90% or higher, because only the top 10% will even have a shot at transferring, and it's not guaranteed you'll get in anywhere you want even if you make top 10% your first year.

If you don't want to go to UB, then just don't go, period. Wait, retake if you have to, don't go to law school if you can't get into a school you'd want to attend. Going to a school you don't want to go to is a terrible decision and is almost certain to fail.

I've heard from Baltimore students that the school sets its freshman curve really low (like 2.6 or 2.8 or something), which presumably makes it more difficult to transfer.

Retake. The question really is, did you study properly and to the best of your ability for the first 2 LSATs? Check out the LSAT guides on this site and in the LSAT forum. Maybe you were prepping in a way that wasn't helpful to you, maybe you didn't prep enough. If so, prep in the best possible way for you and take it a 3rd time.

No. It's class rank and school rank that matter for the most part. Not the number that they curve to.
