Vandy ($$) vs. Georgetown (ticket price)

				Hey guys,
I'm still struggling between Vandy with $72k scholarship and Gtown at ticket price. At this point, I'm not sure what type of law I want to practice.. perhaps public interest, but I don't have my heart set on it. Essentially, I am attending law school because I really enjoy logic and am genuinely interested legal practice in the US. Oh, and I hope to work on the East Coast (Boston, DC, NY, Philadelphia, etc.).
I'd appreciate ANY insight. Thanks a ton!

I think this leans towards Vandy, but a few answers might make it easier to decide.
Debt aversion? Desired geographic area of practice?

Thanks for the reply. Because I have worked/saved a great deal over the past few years, law school debt is not a huge issue. However, it is a consideration and I will be taking out loans for either school. I plan to work on the East Coast.

Then I think Vandy is the right response. I might have said GULC for CA but even then. Generally, I think half tuition at Vandy is better than sticker at GULC.

Here was a recent discussion on Vanderbilt vs GULC at sticker:
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=118548
They're both peer schools; I'm not sure if a convincing argument can be made that one is objectively better than the other. Have you visited either? They have completely different atmospheres--I mean culture, location, class size, ect...
Vandy has had really great placement stats recently, outperforming GULC in big law and art. III clerkships; but that has just been this year and last's. And who knows if that trend will continue? GULC had a pretty good edge before 2008, back when the economy was booming. Vandy's small class size+broad geographic disbursement isolates it somewhat from volatile market swings.
But whatever the merits of deciding which school is better (ceteris paribus), this is not a decision of "all things being equal." 81k at Vandy vs. sticker at GULC seems like a no-brainer. Hopefully I'll see you in the fall.

I'd take Vandy and never look back. 72K is not an inconsequential sum of money. Plus, your COL in DC is going to be much higher than Nashville.

Take the money. Georgetown is not worth the $72k more plus extra COL.

I'd take Vandy fairly easily, and it saddens me to have to say that because, well ... I want your spot!

But if you don't have any super compelling reason to choose G-town then I think this should be a no brainer.

I'd probably go Vandy, since that's a big pile of money and you aren't set on DC.

that's a very tough choice- I know you mentioned you aren't sure what type of law u want to get into- but maybe scroll through the different externships- see which appeal more to you. Plus, the law school cultures will be very different bw the 2 schools (I'm sure ur considering all that)- sorry not much help

Since you're not too sure what type of law you want and aren't really tied down to a location, I think a $72K discount on a law school education at Vandy will make it a lot more enjoyable/interesting (some of your reasons for attending LS.) Sticker + COL in DC is a LOT to pay to pursue an interest. Unless you loved GULC and hated Vandy, I think Vandy is the way to go here. That's an amazing scholarship at a fantastic school, a combo that you really can't go wrong with.
Good luck!
