Visit 03/18/07
So I visited this past weekend (Sunday) and most of the students were still gone for spring break.
First off, the law school was awesome. It was very modern, lots of natural light, and looked more-than-large enough to handle the 400 or so students.
I met a 1L in the lounge area and he offered to show me around the school. Now this may not mean much to you, but he left his laptop, car keys, cell-phone and everything else sitting in the middle of the common area. When asked, he said that he never had to worry about anyone taking someone else's stuff.
He showed me all of the law school that was open, but many of the administrative offices were closed because of the weekend (no big deal, I won't spend my time there anyway). The library was really nice and there were plenty of areas set aside to study.
He told me the students were great and that the school has a pretty laid back atmosphere. In fact, the law review is mostly, if not all, write-on (which surely brings down some of the competition).
Apparently a lot of his friends had 1L summer jobs already lined up (mostly in the state), but he was planning on doing a research project for a professor. He did not seemed to be concerned at all with the career prospects coming out of UTK.
The city was pretty nice, but I didn't spend much time there. I had another visit to go to in Nashville. All-in-all, I was definitely impressed. UTK is in the state I want to practice and my wife has family there. Needless to say, the visit really moved Tenn to the top of my list.
If anyone has any specific questions, let me know and I'll see if I can answer them.

Knoxville isn't too bad. It certainly isn't a Nashville or Memphis, but it is a great college town.
There are plenty of cool bars and restaurants to keep you busy.
When I have free time...............I go to Nashville
If you are planning on working in TN after graduation, I would definitely say UT is extremely well respected and has a great reputation in the area.

I would guess poorly, since T14 and Emory will compete for BigLaw jobs there, and then there are also UGA and Georgia State Grads also in the market.

oh hey paul, i don't know why but i kept thinking you were at kentucky or vandy. just curious but what was the big factor that made you opt out of higher ranked T1 schools in favor of tenn, a supposed inferior school (rankings wise of course).

Re: University of Tennessee College of Law
Im waiting on a decision from Emory(though I applied pretty late) before I make a decision, but I've heard Knoxville is a great school. Hopefully I get something before the 15th..

Haha, that's the position I was in a week ago. Emory fell through, so I guess I'll be a Volunteer come August!
