sounds like you're being smart and persistent about your budget and ice skating regimen, matokah. good for you. 8)

i'm in austin for a few weeks and i can already tell they'll fly by; i'm not even unpacked and i have so many appointments to make, a few visitors later this month to entertain, a new laptop to buy (and an old one to back up... ugh), private loans to research, etc. ETC. not to mention that my mom & bro are kind of slobs so i've been doing some kitchen clean-up/damage control -- as well as plenty of grimacing and cursing to myself!

i'm a little overwhelmed and stress-y and looking over the O-week schedule for davis just now made me feel nervous almost to the point of stomach sickness. :? argh.

hey guys..

hope everyone is doing well. i just got back from a trip to sacramento and found a nice 1 bedroom in midtown. its starting to hit me now i think - the reality of my move, law school. i'm so excited for everything though and can't wait to meet all of you swell TLS people!! i'm definitely down for the pre-orientation get together. have we decided on a place and time???

anyways, find me online aim: deoadjuvante1101

ps. dropped my beloved mac on the ground at the airport and now it won't turn on =( for all you mac users, i know you feel my pain. it was like my freakin baby. i don't even know if i can recover all my files.. i was an idiot not to back things up. ayayay.. what to do what to do..

dannyk1101 I totally know what you mean. I mean the laptop is expensive as all heck and can do all these cool things, looks nice, great graphics... darn... Did you happen to get the AppleCare Protection Plan? You can always call them to see what's up and then get it fixed if what's broken is covered under the plan and/or warranty. I'm not able to install anything on mine as of late and I need to call in to see what's wrong and what I need to do. I'm in no rush though because I will be parting ways with my Mac... who I lovingly named "Mac-puter" and leaving it with my younger sister. I've recently purchased a new Lenovo T61 because I figure I'd get something that I know works with everything Mcgeorge is going to be using. Hope you can get yours fixed though!

Herzchen I haven't seen the orientation week schedule. Where would I be able to find that? Is it online? I'm already nervous about making the move I hope orientation doesn't do a double whammy on me. Where are you moving from? Texas? or was that just a visit?

Artful_Dodger: Herzchen's going to Davis, so her orientation schedule will be different than ours. She's just going to be a next door neighbor which is why she posts in this thread. :)

I believe Monday and Tuesday (the days of the rafting trip) are first year class registration. Wednesday evening I believe 1Ls have a get-together, and then Thursday and Friday are actual orientation classes. That's only if I remember the annual calendar properly, though!

Herzchen: I'm definitely *trying* to be smart about my skating budget, but it's so hard to see all the other skaters getting 3-4 sessions of ice a day with lessons everyday, too. ARGH. Why aren't I rich? :P

Wow - this forum looks like a lot of fun :D!

To all the incoming 1L's, welcome - I'm sure that most of you (and hopefully all) will enjoy your time at McGeorge. I just finished my first year and I gotta tell you, there are a lot of awesome professors here. I'm not gonna lie though, the first year was tough as I don't know what, but it was also very exciting in a way.

See you all at the orientation! 8)

dude....
guys i took my mac into the apple store today and the 'geniuses' said my motherboard is busted. $700!! just to replace plus who knows how much for labor. i might as well just buy a new computer. sniffle sniffle. at least they said the files i have on the hard drive are recoverable. and then my friend said he could take my hard drive out and make it into an external hard drive which is kinda cool. alright i must sound like such a comp geek right now. lol. i also like american muscle cars and playing football, just for the record.

you guys really seem like a fun bunch and i can't wait to meet. Jarrett, I wonder if there was anything fun going on this past monday night - i was actually in town and stuck in my hotel room watching old movies on tv.

anyways for you myspacers: --LinkRemoved--

and for those of you looking for furniture: i'm gonna rent a uhaul and make a trip out to ikea. PM me if you want in....

Hey everyone, I just happened upon this forum and must say I'm pretty excited to read what you all have had to say. I'm an incoming 1L at McGeorge and a Sacramento native, although I did my undergrad in SoCal.

Jarrett, if all plans are still go for that get together I would love to go. I haven't gotten the opportunity to check out the night spots out here in my hometown since turning 21, and I think I'm going to try to squeeze as many in as possible before I have to hunker down for some serious studying once school starts.

If anyone still needs a place to stay, btw, I live in the South Sacramento/Laguna area in my mom's house. Its a gigantic 8 room house and its pretty much just me living here. (I say pretty much because my mom works in Sonoma 6 days out of the week!) Let me know if you're interested or even hit me up if you just want to talk. I'm more or less bumming it up until school starts and catching up books and music I've been meaning to read/listen to.

AIM: ethosdrummer

My name is Christian btw. :-)

Matokah ahh that makes more sense! YAY Now I know someone else that'll be living in our area... neighbors are fun. Congrats on getting into Davis herzchen! How exciting!

Our orientation schedules seems pretty cool and maybe stressful at the same time. Anyway, I called the financial aid office and asked about the perkins loan thing and they told me to still wait until orientation and they'll tell us what to do. I'm so confused... I'd like to know what I'm getting before I start but I guess that's the way it goes.

Anyway, I have a myspace too, but only get on it when people tell me to. I figure it's a good way to keep in touch with people who live away from you and for busy people. I keep in touch with old college buddies and married friends who don't come out much or talk much anymore. At any rate --LinkRemoved--. Send me a message first cause my page is private for all those crazies out there! :)

Hope to see you all soon and good luck for everyone who is moving from out of town AND out of state!

Hey again,

I called about our orientation class schedule because my family and I are gonna drive up my furniture and stuff for my apartment either friday or saturday. Thurs and Fri should last from 9-3. I have to fly back down to LA sometime friday to drive up a uhual with my brother in law, so i'll be missing and festivities that you guys are arranging, or that will be arranged friday. I am going on the rafting trip though, so i'm getting excited about that. I got a 1 bedroom apartment on campus. It'll be nice to be close to campus. JarretN Thanks for the locations info. I was offered a place on campus and decided to take it.

I don't post often, but i follow the conversations. I'll throw in a little about my self. I'll be living in Southacre, i'm into UFC and mma fighting. I do a little boxing and muay thai. I just got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled, and am in the process of gathering furniture for my apartment. While the teeth removal sucked, the gathering of furniture enjoyable. I'm also a history buff and religion student. I majored in both in undergrad. If anyone wants to know anything else, or if you want to chat, here is my contact info.

aim : moksrus
email : nathan.osorio@gmail.com

i have myspace and facebook, and usually check facebook more often than myspace. Looking forward to meeting you guys in a few weeks. As you may have guessed by email, my name is Nathan. Later all

so i'm gonna be alone in sacramento from 0729 until class begins. anyone who wants to hang out and will be in the area, please let me know. i think i'll probably kill my cat if i'm stuck in the house for almost two weeks without something to do.

by the way, i'm samm. born and bred hoosier. aside from the unhealthy amounts of tv i used to watch (note the "used to..." not watching as much tv is probably gonna be the hardest thing about LS) i lived in south africa for six months in college. i work at an international adoption agency, after spending three brutal years working at a psych hospital. (some of those patients were serious bruisers) and i practice hot yoga whenever i have the time/money.

anyway, check me out on myspace. some of y'all are set to private and i can't add you as friends without knowing an email or last name. so find me at --LinkRemoved--

have a great one.

Samm I am soooooooooo interested in working for an adoption agency. Are you working for one in Sacramento or was that a job back home? How was your experience working there?

adupe I just got some orientation info and registration schedules today. I checked my email and you can go online to the Info for Admitted Students section at the McGeorge Website. You'll need the password to get in, but you should have it already and if not, you can email admissions and they will email it to you. The email said they will be mailing out hard copies of the registration info next week. I would say check your email for more info.

Schedules won't be decided until after August 3rd so I wouldn't count on getting anymore info about which section you'll be in until then. I've got a facebook too just in case you want to check it out. love4lee@gmail.com is my address, but I don't check that one too often. Let me know which section you get in when you find out during registration week. [/b]

so i'm a little curious... any SNOWBOARDERS in the bunch???

i can't wait to check out tahoe this winter!

btw, i'll be in town starting aug 1 too so if anyone wants to hang out, explore the city before o-week, let me know!!

thanks, artful_dodger! esp. for not trying to boot me off this thread. :)
matokah does such a good job of explaining my presence on this thread to relative newcomers. la la. speaking of which, girlfriend: how many times per week do you plan to ice skate during 1L? do you just pay a weekly or monthly rate and then see how you budget your time / what all fits into your schmedule once school has begun?

i would tease saleen back except that luckily, i know he <3's me. =-P

btw, i feel sort of weird still being able to log into the mcgeorge admitted students site. not that i even could or would ever want to screw around on there. however, i still find some info on the public site useful - e.g. mcgeorge's laptop recommendations - for comparison's sake.

thanks Artful_Dodger. I did check online in the Info For Admitted students, but I thought that there would be more info there, oh well I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Anyone picking out a spot for the Aug. 5th TLS meeting?

Rafting?

What is all this talk of river rafting I seem to hear? I looked, skimmed really, through the thread and didn't really catch on... is that a TLS event you guys planned, or something totally different with the school? Where can I get more info and is it still open for newcomers?

Thanks, and I'm in Sacramento now, so if any of you are bored and want explore the city just hit me up. I'm always down to make new friends and I'm trying to make the best of what little time I have left before getting sucked into the Law School Vortex everyone seems to warn me about. :-)

danny, i've only ever snowboarded once but i had a blast. would most def like to try it again. i noticed that davis has a ski&snowboard team - they even have a myspace group, i believe - but i'm not sure i'd go so far as to join the group, as they sound quite hard-core.

re: LOANS: i'm still feeling a bit lost as to the +/-'s of my various gradplus and private loan options. am glad to have most of the perkins paperwork out of the way though, and feeling better about the rest of it today than i did yesterday.
very soon, i shall actually do the online entrance tutorial in case it helps clarify matters (plus, it's required), but does anyone know of an easy way to compare, for example, the loan option with the fixed rate to the loan option with the higher interest rate that can be reduced immediately by .25% if one opts for automated payments and by another .5% after 48 months if all payments have been timely or whatever? all else being relatively equally (e.g. no pre-payment penalties either way)?
it seems tough w/o knowing exactly how much debt i'll have when i graduate / what my monthly payments will look like and how much i'll be earning, not to mention whether or not i'll be in a position to take advantage of LRAP, a program i don't yet fully understand!
i have good credit, for whatever that's worth... and would rather err on the side of choosing gradplus if i can't tell what's the absolute best.
i applied for one private loan already, and may soon submit online apps to other potential lenders as well as call up wells fargo (again), my bank...

random anal complaint/rant:
there's an important date error in the intro letter with my orientation packet from davis, btw; our activities get going on 8/19 but in the letter, a meeting that's scheduled to take place during that following week is stated to be on 8/14; the letter also says that all incoming students should plan on being in town by 8/19 and the orientation schedule itself shows the meeting taking place during the week of 8/20, but it could still be confusing or even significantly misleading.
and i've not yet received an apology email.
that seems like the sort of careless error that someone should've definitely caught pre-mass mailing, right?!

Christian, the rafting trip is indeed planned by the school as an optional fun trip to kick-start O-week and has nothing to do with TLS; some current students and faculty as well as incoming 1Ls participate and some of us have heard from current students that it's a really fun way to start meeting people in and outside of one's section.

They mailed out info about it and I doubt it's too late to sign up & pay, but I don't have the info or links on hand anymore since I'm not going after all; someone else here surely does, though!
