Hello everyone! Congratulations on being accepted into Notre Dame Law School! I am a current 1L here and am working for one of the apartment complexes where a lot of law students and other grad students are living this year and will be again next year. Shoot me a private message if you were at all interested in finding out more about housing and/or roommate options here! I know how hard it was finding housing/roommates without actually being on campus so just here to let you know a current student’s opinions on housing choices based on what you are looking for.

Additionally, just wanted to let all of you know that I am happy to answer any questions any of you have as you start to finalize your law school decisions. Hope to see all of you here in the Fall! Go Irish!

P.S. If you do end up signing at my apartment complex you will be paid back in outlines and beer! lol.

Question:

Is housing year round? Or do you have to move out after each semester?

On or off campus housing?

Either... I want to make arrangements that will not leave me homeless during the summer.

Well, during the summer you will ideally have an internship or job in your target market, so you would have to get new housing in that city anyways.

But the on campus housing at ND runs through the school year. August-May with the option to extend for the summer.
I'm not sure about off campus, but I think most places are year round. Thought it probably varies by location. That's one reason I went with on campus housing...to avoid having to find a person to sub let for the summer

Just wondering what the social scene is like. I went to undergrad in a rural location, so that doesn't bother me, but just wondering what typical weekends outside the football season are like. Obviously everyone studies, but do the students like to go out and have fun? I really liked the school when I visited, but I think it did seem a little buttoned up...do people let loose ha?

Thursday nights can get pretty kooky; that's when we go out to the bars. People here run the gamut—there are a fair number of stuffed shirts, but also a lot of people who like to cut loose on the weekend. I remember finals after first semester of 1L, couple of drunk classmates were making out in the bar. Some other raging going on too. But it's not NYC or Chicago; if you expect a clubbing scene, you will be disappointed. Think more divey bars.

Edit: We produced this video for the law school talent show a few weeks ago, by the way. I think this does a decent job of conveying the fact that we do know how to have fun. http://youtu.be/IDFJA-lTe3M

Just withdrew from my other options. See everyone in South Bend this fall!

Anyone put an application in for campus housing?

Any current students want to chime in on housing? Is campus housing TCR or does it not matter? I have a car.

I have a studio at the Overlook. I wanted to be solo and because it includes all utilities/internet, seemed like the cheapest (or close to it) way to live by myself.

Want to be alone for 1L so I can focus, but I definitely won't pay that much 2L & 3L. Campus seems pretty credited for roommate situations.

I was kind of thinking of doing the same thing for 1L. I'm literally going to just bring my car, my laptop, clothes, some kitchen ware and whatever personal items I can fit into my car and drive to South Ben. Fully furnished sounds good to me.

I'm also staying at the overlook for the same reason. Seems like maybe a 15min walk to class at most. Not bad in my opinion.

Do it! I'm on the fourth floor. We can be bros. And, yeah, one trip sounds awesome.

My plan as well. It'll be nice moving in/out of a furnished place with ease if/when we get summer gigs in another city.

Campus housing is the cheapest. It's only a 10-15 minute walk to the law school. Fully furnished. I lived in the on campus housing this year and am living there next year as well.
I originally wanted to get a single somewhere off campus so I could "focus" on studying. I'm glad I didn't. I do all my studying at the law school so I feel like I am barely home anyways. And human interaction outside of the law school is always a good thing. Everyone has their own study strategy though. I know a fair amount of 1Ls this year who did do a single somewhere off campus.

I put in an app for Fischer. 620/month all in is pretty tempting. I'm pretty sure they are 10 month leases as well. Have a friend who stayed there for a different grad program and really enjoyed it.

Does Overlook offer a 10 month option? What do the studios run per month?
