Does anyone have thoughts or insights about these three appellate groups? Especially factors like hours, culture, associate/partner relations, career prospects, argument opportunities, so on. Prior posts on here say good things about Orrick but I don't see as much about the other two.

Also wondering same (assuming you're also a current COA clerk?) - also curious about Sidley and Cov appellate, as well.

That's right -- current COA clerk applying for jobs starting this fall. I don't know anything about Sidley or Covington beyond them both being well respected, so hopefully others can chime in.

If you haven’t yet applied, I’m happy to chat with you. I considered many of these groups and work at one and have friends at another one.

Do you get the sense that work life balance is comparable between these appellate groups and others generally? I'm sure it can vary year to year but am still curious if there are big differences in hours between groups.

I would not say work-life-balance is comparable across groups. But generally speaking, work-life-balance is better within a firm's appellate groups than in general litigation. Generally speaking, I think smaller groups tend to have less work-life-balance if they're structured in a way where you're at the whims of the group's leader/leaders.

A recent comment on reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/biglaw/commen ... are_button) claims Mayer Brown appellate bills 2400. That seems really high - is there any truth to that?
