"Commissions"

What does a judge do between receiving their "commission" after the Senate confirms them and taking the bench? And how long does it take for one of them to go on OSCAR - like how could I apply to Arun Subramanian? I guess he can't have OSCAR til he's sworn in?

They wrap up their remaining legal work, clean up their finances, and get their chambers set up. Someone like Subramanian is probably hiring his initial clerks through his network. SDNY is notoriously hard to get up to speed in, so a lot of the confirmed judges tend to try and hire experienced clerks and lawyers they have worked with before, but if you want to send an app, you can probably see if one of your professors knows him and go through them. I would not advise emailing his Susman address.

Subramanian’s first class is full. He hired current COA clerks.

Where'd he get them from? Networks or was he soliciting apps.
