Does anyone know any stories of people receiving a Bristow post-district court but pre-appellate clerkship?

Not off the top of my head but I don't see why this couldn't happen. The people who end up getting Bristows are such stellar candidates that even without their appellate clerkships they probably would have still gotten the Bristows.

Seems unlikely, and I’ve never heard of it

I am pretty sure you have to have done an appellate clerkship beforehand.

They only hire 4 a year, they don't need to settle for someone without appellate experience.

I don’t believe there is a hard and fast rule, but AFAIW they usually ask the judge about candidates.
