Got an interview invite for a Judge for 2024 that posted prior to June of 2022 so I guess stuff is still going on.

Neimeyer (CA4) had an OSCAR posting for 2024 back in March or April (ish) and I know he moved mid-May. No idea if he filled though.

Do clerkships drug test? This hadn't even occurred to me but I guess you technically are a federal employee.

It depends on the district. Anecdotally, my (fairly conservative) district tested me as an intern when marijuana was illegal in my state, but did not test me as a clerk when marijuana was legal. Idk if the difference is legalization, or being a clerk and not an intern.

It also depends on the individual Judge right? I vaguely recall some differences in background checks and things between the judges in the district I was in.

Could be. I also think the interns are hired by the Chief Judge (formally), whereas clerks are actually hired by the supervising judge, so policies may vary.

It doesn't seem like there are very many 2024-25 COA clerkship listings on OSCAR (at least not within the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 11th Circuits). Is OSCAR the primary method in which to apply/seek COA clerkship opportunities? Maybe it's just early in the cycle and more will come?

I am not a straight through/traditional applicant fwiw, so likely not as plugged into the process. Either way, confused as to where to find these positions.

It’s probably a little early for those positions to be listed.

OSCAR is not the primary method this far out. Well-connected professors and mass-mailing are the most common avenues.

Did others get the OSCAR email notification from Ebel's chambers? Do we gather that means anything or do we think it is just an automatic thing? (please help me read these damn tea leaves)
