Is it too early to begin applying to mass mailing firms? Looking at NYC market.

Check NALP--search for a particular firm's office; go to the firm's profile and click on the "recruitment & hiring" tab; locate the "post-clerkship hiring" tab; some firms list when to apply. If nothing's listed, perhaps it makes sense for you to reach out to the firm directly to get a sense of timing.moosophocles wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 2:18 pmDoes anyone have any sense of when the NYC firms will be hiring clerks? I've not found a lot of intel yet, so my presumption was something like January/February, but any insight would really be appreciated.

I'm currently doing a state clerkship that's set to end in August 2022. Median at a T14 and hoping for midlaw or (if I'm lucky big law). Looking in the NJ/NYC area, but open to anywhere. Is it too early to start applying? I've been emailing a handful of firm recruiting contacts.

If you have already accepted an offer to go back to your prior firm from 2L summer following a clerkship the first year out of school, when would the firm reach out? Or would you reach out to them at some point?

Does anyone know whether any of the boutiques are considering onboarding associates to work remotely full time (i.e., someone working from a state where the firm doesn't have an office)?

Not really a typical boutique but Consovoy is mostly a remote firmAnonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 2:12 pmDoes anyone know whether any of the boutiques are considering onboarding associates to work remotely full time (i.e., someone working from a state where the firm doesn't have an office)?

Paul Weiss NY is not accepting returning clerks so it’s probably safe to assume they’re not hiring clerks at all this cycle. DC might be a different story.

This seems really significant and deserving of more commentary. Current clerk here, next year will be on COA and interested in NY/DC lit. PW is usually mentioned as a good biglaw lit option. Is that gone now? Is this firm specific or indicative of biglaw lit in general? Is it boutique or bust for clerks?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:37 amPaul Weiss NY is not accepting returning clerks so it’s probably safe to assume they’re not hiring clerks at all this cycle. I would be willing to put "I'm flexible as to clerkship bonus" in my cover letters. I mean it. I need a job. I have loans to pay off. I want to be a lawyer someday.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:37 amPaul Weiss NY is not accepting returning clerks so it’s probably safe to assume they’re not hiring clerks at all this cycle. I did a bunch of interviews at a boutique firm just over two weeks ago. (Think 10 individual interviews over 3-4 days.) It's been radio silence since.
Anybody care to read the tea leaves? Is this a normal length of time to wait?

Interviewed with two boutiques over a month ago, radio silence from both until I reached out last week. Got a reply rejection from one, and still haven't heard from the other. Luckily heard back last week from the fed job I applied for and decided to take that insteadAnonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 10:07 amI did a bunch of interviews at a boutique firm just over two weeks ago. Re: 2021-2022 Post-Clerkship Hiring
I would take this with a grain of salt. Sometimes firms don't take particular returning clerks back, and say something general so as to be nicer about it. Of course, not good news, but I'd be pretty surprised if PW didn't hire back the people who had good reputations.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:37 amPaul Weiss NY is not accepting returning clerks so it’s probably safe to assume they’re not hiring clerks at all this cycle. Re: 2021-2022 Post-Clerkship Hiring
Term BK clerk in CA here. I have not been too busy submitting apps other than some far reaches before Thanksgiving. Already rejected from 2, nothing back from the others. Since filings are so low, and in an effort not to compete with District and COA clerks, I am planning on framing myself as a good M&A (and distressed M&A), leveraged finance, RX, candidate with BK in the back pocket. Not sure how that will work out. Any other insights, feedback, or discussion welcome.

As someone who came to clerk in California from elsewhere, what firm is HH in Los Angeles? Google won't give me anything that looks right. If we're talking Hughes Hubbard, I can't find any corroborating info on their website. Please advise xx
