It is never too early to network, but it is too early to network in a coordinated and productive way. I am starting in Fall 2023 post-COA and I am just pulling myself together to start networking.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 9:23 amIs it too early to network if I’m finished clerking (D.Ct -> COA) in 2024? Some of the stories in this thread are making me nervous. My clerkship is in a relatively major city where I’d like to practice, but I have no connections there. Is there anything I can do now to improve my chances of landing BL post-clerkship?

I'm in a similar position. Curious what strategies you are using to network at this point. Mind sharing?

That makes sense. I figure I have a bit of time before I need to be systematic. Since I wrote that post, I’ve unintentionally networked with a few clerks heading off to firms in my target city that I would very much like to work for post-clerkship.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 4:34 pmIt is never too early to network, but it is too early to network in a coordinated and productive way. Really just compiling a list of firms I might want to work for, figuring out people I'd like to network with at each firm, and so on.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 5:33 pmI'm in a similar position. How early should people clerking during the 2022-2023 term start applying? Most firms don't seem to have clerk application/hiring postings up on their websites yet. Should people currently clerking start applying now anyways, perhaps through a personal connection or the firm's recruiting contact?

Applying, very late 2022 or early 2023, networking, now.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 3:03 pmHow early should people clerking during the 2022-2023 term start applying? Hi all, how often does the average biglaw firm call your Judge, without asking, as a reference before making a decision? I'm asking because I have yet to tell my Judge about a firm (out of embarrassment, because its so early and I got looped into interviewing by a friend who works at the firm) and am a little worried that they will call him without first notifying me. Thanks!

There's no expectation that you will tell your judge about every firm you apply to, don't worry about it. And super-early interviews aren't that rare.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 11:28 amHi all, how often does the average biglaw firm call your Judge, without asking, as a reference before making a decision? Is this true? I thought best practice was to tell your Judge about all the firms you applied to, even if they don't come up in a conflicts setting just yet.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 1:46 amThere's no expectation that you will tell your judge about every firm you apply to, don't worry about it. Has anyone here successfully negotiated remote positions at firms they summered at? Or remote positions with a firm that isn't Quinn?
